AT&T Drops HTC First to $0.99

Wed, 05/08/2013 - 17:43 -- Alex Gardner

It looks like people are not wiling to pay $100 for a Facebook smartphone. AT&T has discounted the HTC First from $100 to $0.99. The HTC First is the original smartphone to ship with Facebook Home already installed. Home gives users easier access to the popular social network site, however, so does the free Facebook app. So why would people pay $100 for a subpar phone, when there are cheaper devices that can do basically the same thing?

Facebook Home transforms your smartphone into a Facebook hub by putting your friends and family at the "heart of your phone". The Home interface adds your News Feed to your home screen, sends you Facebook related notifications, and allows you keep up with your Facebook conversations with its annoying chat heads feature. Simply put, it sounds like Facebook Home may give you a little too much Facebook all the time.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Coming to AT&T and US Cellular in April

Fri, 03/29/2013 - 14:33 -- Sammy Snyder

Both AT&T and US Cellular will open pre-orders for the Galaxy S4 on April 16th. AT&T announced the GS4 from Samsung will be priced at $250 with a two year contract. US Cellular did not announce pricing, but the regional carrier did open a page for customers to register for a pre-order reminder.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Pre-Orders

CEO John Legere mentioned the GS4 will be available though T-Mobile around May 1st. T-Mobile has stopped subsidizing phones, meaning customers will have to pay full price for the flagship Samsung handset. However, this also means T-Mobile subscribers will not have to agree to a two-year contract. T-Mobile did not mention how much the Galaxy S4 will cost, but the carrier is selling the iPhone 5 for $99 with 24 monthly payments of $20 (or $580 over two years). T-Mobile is also offering the Blackberry Z10 for $532 ($99 down / 24 monthly payments of $18). It is safe to assume that the GS4 will feature a similar pricing plan.
