Samsung Unveils Xcover 2 Smartphone for Outdoorsmen

Samsung has officially announced the Xcover 2. The rugged smartphone is for "active explorers who are enjoying outdoor lifestyles and seeking a durable mobile device with essential smartphone capabilities". The Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone is dust, sand and water resistant (to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes), and features a direct camera key for easy underwater photography.

The Xcover 2 ships with pre-downloaded Google map data, an enhanced GPS with GLONASS satellite technology, an LED Flash which can be used like a flashlight and a battery capacity of 570 hours (1,700mAh). The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, and sports a 4-inch WVGA display, a 5MP camera and a VGA front-facing camera.

LG Announces Optimus G Coming to AT&T and Sprint

LG has announced its "superphone" will be available in the United States on the AT&T and Sprint networks. The Optimus G is a quad-core LTE smartphone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It's equipped with a 2,100mAh battery, a 4.7-inch True HD display, 13MP camera (Sprint only, 8MP for AT&T users) and 32GB of internal storage (with expandable memory available). Both the 13MP and 8MP cameras offer advanced imaging features like zero shutter lag, Live Shot, to capture simultaneous video and still images, and Time Catch. The LG Optimus G also ships with Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1.3MP front-facing camera and pre-loaded features like QuickMemo and Dual Screen Dual Play.

LG Optimus L9 Passes Through FCC

LG's flagship L-series smartphone, the Optimus L9, has been approved by the FCC. The sexy looking handset features a 4.7-inch IPS screen, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), a qtranslator language app, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 2,150mAh battery and a 5-megapixel camera. The Optimus L9 is €50 or around $65 in U.S. dollars. This could be the first L-series phone to make its way to the U.S..

Pre-Order the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD

Motorola unveiled the Droid RAZR Maxx HD at today's Motorola event in New York City. Pre-orders open on September 5th, at 5 p.m. ET at http://www.verizonwireless.com/droidrazrm and will be available on September 13th in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at Verizon Wireless for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.

The Droid RAZR Maxx HD features 4G LTE speeds for watching movies, television shows and other video content on its 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display. The 3,300mAh battery allows for up to 21 hours of talk time, 13 hours of video playback or eight hours of web browsing on LTE. Other features include: a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM, mobile hotspot capabilities for up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices, an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p HD recording, and NFC Android Beam capabilities.

B&H is currently accepting pre-orders for the newly announced Sony Xperia 9.4-inch tablet. As rumored the new slate features a Tegra 3 chip and up to 64GB of built-in storage. It's equipped with a high-definition 9.4-inch TFT color LCD display that supports a cinematic 1280 x 800 native resolution, 1GB of RAM, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 1MP front camera, 8MP rear camera, up to 32GB of expandable storage and Sony's IR Remote Control feature.

Several online retailers such as B&H and Adorama are now accepting orders for the Lenovo IdeaPad A2109 tablet. There are also reports that it can be found at brick and mortar Best Buy locations too.

Verizon Publishes Motorola Droid 4 Ice Cream Sandwich Changelog

Verizon approved the Android 4.0 update for the Droid 4 on Monday. The carrier also published the complete changelog, and is expected to begin the soak test sometime today. Besides the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, the update will bring better quality pictures, global roaming capabilities, a remote diagnostics tool, plus other improvements and fixes. Android 4.0 will add new features like Face Unlock and improved multi-tasking.

The update should begin rolling out in a few days If today's soak test is successful. You can either wait to be notified, or check for the OTA download by navigating to Menu Key > Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.

Samsung Galaxy Note Lands at T-Mobile

T-Mobile subscribers can now buy the Samsung Galaxy Note for $250. The "phablet" is now available at T-Mobile stores or online at Tmobile.com. The Android smartphone/tablet hybrid was originally introduced in 2011 through AT&T.

The Note features an extra-large 5.3-inch display, stylus and handwriting recognition, and exclusive note taking apps. The 4G LTE device is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, and runs Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. It ships with an 8MP camera, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in memory plus a MicroSD card for up to 48GB of expandable memory.

HTC EVO 3D Gets a Second Life With Android 4.0

HTC released its Android 4.0 roadmap back in May. The timeline revealed that most HTC devices would be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich in June and July. HTC has kept one of its promises by rolling out over the air 4.0 updates to HTC EVO 3D owners on Tuesday. The update brings Sense 3.6 and new Android 4.0 features to the device.

Verizon Announces Samsung Galaxy S III Release Date

Verizon has finally announced that the Samsung Galaxy S III will be available at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com/galaxys3 on July 10. Verizon is the last major U.S. carrier to launch the 4G LTE Samsung device. AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint released the Galaxy S III in June after slight delays due to “unprecedented demand” and “manufacturer supply constraints."

Customers can take advantage of the S3's fast speeds thanks to Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network. It features Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), mobile hotspot capabilities for sharing a 4G LTE connection with up to 10 Wi-Fi-enabled devices, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. The S3 also ships with Share Shot, S Beam, S Voice and Pop Up Play.
