Samsung Launches Dual-Screen Continuum Smartphone
Submitted by Fred Straker on Tue, 11/09/2010 - 12:05The next in a series of popular Android smartphones from Samsung is coming later this month to Verizon Wireless. The Galaxy S Continuum was announced today and will be available for pre-order on November 11 with units appearing on store shelves one week later. The handset features two Super AMOLED displays on the front panel, a unique design that saves battery life when the larger screen isn't necessary.

The smaller screen is activated with two grip sensors on the sides of the Continuum, and it displays quick information such as the time, current weather, news, missed calls, SMS message previews, alerts, and voicemails waiting. The 1.8 inch "ticker display" also makes it possible to control the music player and works in conjunction with the larger 3.4 inch main display for certain apps. For example, driving directions can be listed on the ticker while maps are displayed on the main display.

Submitted by Thomas Estilow on Sat, 02/27/2010 - 20:12Reports have surfaced that all US-based smartphones running the Android operating system will receive the latest 2.1 update. The software should be released over the next few months for all hardware models currently in use.

Some models will not support all features of the OS upgrade. In fact, in some cases users will have to completely wipe the old operating system to update their devices. As long as contacts and media files are backed up they can be restored.
Verizon "Droid Does" Not Get Android 2.1 Update
Submitted by Chad Shmukler on Sun, 01/24/2010 - 12:12Despite the many things that the Verizon enjoys pointing out that the Motorola "Droid Does", evidently one of the things it doesn't do is get the Android 2.1 update, at least not yet. It had been fairly heavily rumored that Verizon was planning an OTA update to Android 2.1 for all Motorola Droid owners yesterday, January 22nd. Unfortunately for many hopefully Droid owners, yesterday has come and gone, and without an Android update.
