Is Amazon Still Working on a 10-Inch Kindel Fire?

Wed, 08/15/2012 - 16:11 -- Marshall Walker

It has long been rumored that Amazon had only planned to test the tablet waters with its original 7-inch Kindle Fire. Amazon's purported plan was to release a larger version of its "iPad Killer" if the original smaller version sold well. Even though the Kindle Fire didn't live up to its iPad killing nickname, it does look like Amazon is still moving ahead with a larger version of the tablet.

A recent FCC filing spotted by the The Digital Reader revealed that Amazon may be trying to hide the tablet by using a front company.

Nate Hoffelder explains:

"Every time Amazon has sent a device through the FCC they used a new front company and then hid the paperwork. This is what Amazon has done for every ereader and tablet since the second Kindle. (The first leaked accidentally.) In fact, when the K4, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Fire went through the FCC, Amazon used 3 front companies.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus as Low as $149 For New Customers [Deals]

Fri, 12/16/2011 - 17:06 -- Marshall Walker

On Thursday we listed the Samsung Galaxy Nexus at $199 via Amazon Wireless. Today we noticed the price has been dropped to $149 with a new two-year contract (pricing may be higher for those upgrading, visit Amazon Wireless to see if you qualify). Amazon probably dropped the price because the handset is on "backorder," but according to the listing the phone should ship in 8 to 9 days.

The Galaxy Nexus is $299.99 on VerizonWireless.com, and only $189.99 from Wirefly with a new two-year contract. An upgraded contract will cost you $239.99. Wirefly's shipping is listed as 5 to 7 days. These are some great deals for new Verizon customers who are looking to make the leap to Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Can Amazon Fix the Kindle Fire Before It's Too Late?

Wed, 12/14/2011 - 10:21 -- Marshall Walker

The customer reviews for the Amazon Kindle Fire have been a mixed bag so far. Some claim to love it, and others have an issue with its small screen, slow connectivity and the lack of the ability to hide porn from their wives. Usability expert Jakob Nielsen recently slammed the device's "fat-finger" problems and slow screen updates.

"7-inch tablets have either a glorious future or will fail miserably. I doubt there's a middle path in their future," Nielsen wrote in his report.

While some of Nielsen's criticisms mirror some customer complaints, his concerns over programmers not designing content for 7-inch tablets doesn't really add up for the Kindle Fire. Unlike other failed tablets with barren app stores, the Kindle Fire already offers thousands of apps, movies, games, music and books through Amazon.com.

The Kindle Fire is so important to Amazon's future that the company is losing money on each device. Like video game consoles, Amazon hopes to make its money back on content like renting movies and selling virtual books. The customer complaints have not fallen of deaf ears, and Amazon has promised its first OTA update to address the issues in a few weeks.
