Sony has announced its "first smartphone" is shipping globally, and retailers should be offering it soon. Unfortunately Sony is not releasing the Xperia S, Xperia P or the Xperia U in the U.S.. AT&T will be getting the Xperia Ion later this year though.

The Xperia S ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but is expected to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in a few weeks. The smartphone features a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, 12MP camera, and 720p display.
Other specs include a 4.3-inch display with 720 by 1280 pixels of resolution, a 1.3MP rear-facing camera, Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter support. Availability and pricing is being decided by carrier partners.
