TechCrunch claims that they've seen the rumored Amazon tablet that is supposed to be the first and only device to challenge the iPad. The tech blog says the new Amazon slate looks like the BlackBerry PlayBook and features a 7-inch backlit color capacitive screen. A 10-inch tablet is also in the works, but won't launch with the 7-inch as originally reported. Amazon is going to launch the 7-inch in November for $250 (around the same price as the Barnes & Noble NOOK Color), and if it does well, follow it with the 10-inch tablet in Q1 of 2012.
The reason Amazon is supposed to succeed where the HPTouchpad failed is because of its deeply integrated services. There is the Kindle app, Amazon’s Cloud Player for music and videos, and Amazon’s Android Appstore is only a click away. Amazon has also separated itself from Google by running a skinned version of Android that doesn't feature any Google Android Apps. TC says Android users won't recognize it.
