More than 50 online banking applications released by the same developer have been removed from the Android Market. These "rogue" apps were not developed or approved by the financial institutions they represented.

Fears of phishing or trojans lurking in the software code led to Google pulling the plug on all of 09Droid's apps. Several banks have issued warnings to stay away from unapproved mobile online banking applications.

Users have reported that the banking apps simply pointed to the bank website, however it's possible that the apps were collecting login or account information. 09Droid's contact information points to an empty blog, increasing suspicion as the developer has remained completely anonymous.

Google claims that one percent of published apps in the Android Market are later removed, usually when developers violate terms of service by using copyrighted materials or including adult content.

Due to the openness of the Android Market, Google depends on users to report security problems or other issues with software. The Market has no central app review process.
