There has been a lot of hoopla surrounding Google's decision to delay the release of the Nexus 7 factory images, but everyone can now rest easily because they are finally publicly available. Google has posted both the factory images and binaries for Android 4.3 to their developer site. This is good news for Nexus 7 owners because developers can now begin creating custom ROMs for the new tablet.
The public release of the factory images came a few days after Android Open Source Project maintainer Jean-Baptiste Queru quit over a dispute with chip-maker Qualcomm. The feud even prompted one Android fan to create a petition on Change.org asking Paul E. Jacobs, Chief Executive Officer of Qualcomm to "release the factory images of Android devices using Qualcomm CPU's and GPU's to the Android Open Source Project." The petition gained over 1,000 signatures before being closed.
